Datto Backup for Microsoft Azure
Description
NOTE As of March 1, 2024, customers may notice a change to the way their per-SIRIS Backup for Microsoft Azure subscriptions are displayed on their invoice. A breakdown of the changes is detailed below.
Previous invoices showed a “quantity” in relation to the storage space used, and an item rate per GB that would work out to the appropriate price for that storage tier. For example:
Here the Item Rate is determined by dividing the Item Total by the Quantity (in GB) allocated to that device.
As of February 1, 2024, invoices now show the following conversion for the Quantity field on per-SIRIS Backup for Microsoft Azure subscriptions.
If quantity = 0-1024, NEW QUANTITY = 1
If quantity = 1025-2048, NEW QUANTITY = 2
If quantity = 2048-4096, NEW QUANTITY = 4
If quantity = 4097-6144, NEW QUANTITY = 6
As a result, the Item Rate is also changed to show the Item Total divided by the new Quantity value. The Item Total is not changed as a result of this display.
The following examples demonstrate the change in values with varying Quantity sizes.
-
The new Quantity = 6, the Item Rate = 101.94, and the Item Total remains $611.63.
-
The new Quantity = 1, the Item Rate = 149.25, and the Item Total remains $149.25.
-
The new Quantity = 2, the Item Rate = 145.86, and the Item Total remains $291.75.
The "Details per Organization (Client)” section of the invoice is also updated accordingly.
FAQs
A Datto Backup for Microsoft Azure subscription represents one Cloud SIRIS that is protecting VMs within one Azure region, within a given Azure subscription, within a given Azure tenant.
All virtual machines protected on the Cloud SIRIS share commitment and retention terms and are therefore subject to the same discounts and premiums (i.e. 1-year commitment, 1-year Time Based Retention).
Cloud SIRIS’ are currently limited to 7 virtual machines and 6 TB of managed disk capacity. There are no limits to the number of Cloud SIRIS’ which may be created for a given organization.
Datto Backup for Microsoft Azure bills on a per-VM basis based on the managed disk capacity attached to the protected virtual machine.
For example, if you have a per-VM subscription:
- If a virtual machine has 256 GB of managed disk capacity, it will be billed at the 0-512 GB rate.
- If a virtual machine has 640 GB of managed disk capacity, it will be billed at the 512-1024 rate.
If you have a per-Siris subscription:
- If you have multiple virtual machines on the same Cloud SIRIS, you will be billed based on the size range that that Cloud SIRIS’ managed disk capacity falls into
- 0-1 TB (invoice quantity = 1)
- 1-2 TB (invoice quantity = 2)
- 2-4 TB (invoice quantity = 4)
- 4-6 TB (invoice quantity = 6)
Billing for Datto Backup for Microsoft Azure is prorated in arrears and billed in advance, similarly to ALTO, S4X1/2, and SaaS Protection.
For example:
- You create a Cloud SIRIS on January 15 with one protected system. Your February bill will show a charge for this protected system for the last 16 days of January and the month of February.
- Extending the above example, you add one new protected system to the same Cloud SIRIS on January 25. Your February bill for this subscription will also include a separate prorated charge for this protected system for the last six days of January and full billing for the month of February.
Billing starts on the day that you accept a Datto Backup for Microsoft Azure quote or the day you set up a new Cloud SIRIS, whichever is earlier.
- Adding protected systems: Billing will be prorated in arrears effective the day you added protection for the VM and billed in advance for the following month.
- Removing protected systems: Subscriptions of Datto Backup for Microsoft Azure are subject to a high-watermarking, and you will continue to be billed at the contracted rate even if systems are removed.
If the change to managed disk capacity on the protected system causes the managed disk capacity value to cross one of the establishing billing thresholds, your billed balance will automatically adjust in response to that change. If the change does not cross a billing threshold, your billed balance will not change.
