Cloud Deletion Defense
This article discusses the Cloud Deletion Defense feature, how it is utilized, and when it is available.
Environment
- Datto SIRIS
- Datto ALTO
Description
Cloud Deletion Defense (CDD) allows users to regain access to deleted cloud snapshots when an asset is either mistakenly or maliciously deleted. When agents or shares are deleted, the associated cloud snapshots would normally be deleted too, but Cloud Deletion Defense provides a window to recover this cloud data. This fail-safe does not pretect local data, so it is still important to keep offsite replication up to date.
Cloud Deletion Defense is available for all BCDR partners with offsite replication enabled and works similar to a 'recycle bin' for these cloud datasets. For security purposes, more detail cannot be disclosed on the specifics how the CDD works.
If you need to recover cloud data with Cloud Deletion Defense, contact Datto Technical Support as soon as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions

After data has been migrated to a new node, it will be updated with the new location and will operate as normal on the new node.

No, the Cloud Deletion Defense does not prevent removal through retention.

Yes. There is a time limitation to CDD. If you need to recover cloud data that has been accidentally or maliciously deleted via the Remote Web, contact Datto Technical Support as soon as possible to see if CDD is a recovery option.

No, since SIRIS Private data is not replicated to the Datto Cloud, it is not covered by CDD.

No, Cloud Deletion Defense only protects active cloud datasets. It does not protect "old chains" that are not tied to an active agent.
