Answer
Cloud Deletion Defense (CDD) allows users to regain access to deleted cloud snapshots when an agent is either mistakenly or maliciously deleted. When agents are deleted, the associated cloud snapshots would normally be deleted too. Cloud Deletion Defense provides a window to recover this cloud data.
Cloud Deletion Defense is available for all BCDR partners and works similar to a 'recycle bin' for the cloud datasets. For security purposes, more detail cannot be disclosed on the specifics how the CDD works.
If you need to recover cloud data with Cloud Deletion Defense, contact Datto Technical Support as soon as possible.
Is Cloud Deletion Defense also available for Datto Endpoint Backup for PC?
No, not at this time.
How does the Cloud Deletion Defense work with migrations?
After data has been migrated to a new node, it will be updated with the new location and will follow the normal retention settings for the new node.
Are snapshots recoverable that have been deleted due to retention expiration?
No, the Cloud Deletion Defense does not prevent removal through retention.
Does this apply to data stored on the local BCDR appliance?
No, this feature is only applicable to your Datto Cloud Snapshots.
Is there a time limit for when the data is recoverable?
Yes. There is a time limitation to CDD. If you need to recover cloud data that has been accidentally or maliciously deleted via your Datto UI, contact Datto Technical Support as soon as possible to see if CDD is a recovery option.
Is SIRIS private included?
No, since SIRIS Private data is not replicated to the Datto Cloud, it is not covered by CDD.
Are NAS shares included in this protection?
Yes. NAS shares that are replicated to the Datto Cloud, are included.
