Description

What is Volume-Level Backup Control?

In addition to the OS drive, paired agents can backup and restore multiple volumes on the same protected device.

  • Total size of all volumes combined must be 1.5TB or less.
  • If the total size of all volumes exceeds 1.5TB they will not take backups.
  • You can restore volumes directly from the Datto Partner Portal.
  • Per volume selection is available via the Agent Settings in the Datto Partner Portal.

NOTE  By default, only the OS volume is selected for backup. You can adjust which volumes are backed up using the Agent Settings.

Excluded Volumes

Volumes with no mountpoints

  • These are filtered out and not available to include in backups.
  • They will not be visible in the Volume Level Backup Control.

Removable drives

  • Examples include USB drives and other external storage.
  • They are identified and treated the same as normal drives within most systems.
  • Backup of removable drives is not supported.

FAQs

How do I turn on Volume-Level Backup Control?

Multi-volume backup capability is enabledautomatically.on newly installed agents. There is no need to enable it.

Is there a limit to the number of volumes I can back up?

No, but the combined size of all volumes cannot exceed 1.5TB or backups will fail. If there is more than 25 volumes included, screenshots and virtualizations will exclude the later named volumes, but backups and restore options will remain the same.

Can I choose which volumes I want to backup?

All volumes that are capable of being backed up can be included. Only the OS volume is included by default. Other volumes can be added in the Agent Settings.

In a disaster scenario, can I pick which volumes I want to restore?

When you run a restore, all volumes that you back up will be included. We plan to add the ability to choose individual volumes in the near future.
