Hardware

Only 64-bit hardware.

BMR to ARM-based hardware is not supported.

Memory requirementsAt least 1 GB of RAM must remain free during normal operations of the production machine for install and backups to run.
Disk space requirementsEach protected volume must have 10% of the volume's total size available.
Network

Allow outbound traffic on port 443 on the following host: *.datto.io

NOTE   Check that throttling settings are applied correctly in your backup policies.

Anti-virus exceptions

Create an exception for the “Datto Backup Agent” service and the following directories:

  • %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files\Datto Backup Agent

  • %ProgramFiles%\Datto Backup Agent

Other Requirements

Datto recommends a minimum of 2 CPU cores for the backup agent, depending on workloads. If the agent is experiencing high CPU usage during backups with fewer than 2 CPUs, the production machine may require additional resources.

System PATH variable must have powershell included.

Best practices

Backup Scheduling: Set up custom schedules based on asset type—servers may need continuous backups, while desktops can be backed up during off-peak hours.

Retention Management: Regularly review retention settings to ensure compliance with business policies while controlling storage costs.

Regular Testing: Periodically test restore procedures to ensure data can be recovered efficiently.

Datto Endpoint Backup version 2 upgrade

Installation Process

The Version 2 installation uninstalls Version 1.
Version 2 begins tracking changes immediately after installation.

NOTE  No reboots are required during or after installation.

Portal Separation

Versions 1 and 2 use separate portals. Existing Version 1 backups remain in Datto Partner Portal.
New backups are exclusively created and managed in UniView via Backup.net.

NOTE  Moving from Datto Endpoint Backup to Datto Endpoint Backup Version 2 will not cause any double billing.
