Dataset Cleanup
This article describes the Dataset Cleanup feature for Datto Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery (BCDR) appliances. For security reasons, this option is only available when logging into the Remote Web of the Datto device through the Partner Portal. Local logins will not display this card. For more information, see Local Access Control.
Environment
- Datto SIRIS
- Datto ALTO
- Datto NAS
Description
Orphaned datasets consist of backup data which may have failed to completely migrate to, or clean up from, a Datto device's storage array. They can be caused by a number of factors, and they do not appear anywhere in the Remote Web, making it challenging to know that they exist.
The Dataset Cleanup feature allows a device operator to view and remove any orphaned datasets which may be present on the appliance.
Auditing & Managing Orphaned Data
To access the Dataset Cleanup card, perform the following steps:
From the Remote Web of your Datto appliance, navigate to Advanced > Advanced Device Status.
Scroll down until you see the Dataset Cleanup card.

- Dataset Name: This column displays the ZFS path of the orphaned dataset.
- Size: This column represents the total disk space used by each of the orphaned datasets.
- Action: Clicking the wastebasket icons in this column allows you to remove orphaned datasets on an individual basis. Once deleted, removed datasets cannot be recovered.
