Error: Unrecoverable Backup Error
Issue
When attempting a backup of the protected machine, it failed with the following error in the agent logs:
Unrecoverable backup error caught trying to take snapshot: invalid unordered_map<K, T> key (SNAPSHOT_VSS)
Environment
- Datto Endpoint Backup for PCs
- Datto Endpoint Backup with Disaster Recovery
- Datto Endpoint Backup
Cause
The backup agent software is unable to backup the external volume connected to the system.
Resolution
Backing up external volumes is not supported, they will need to either be physically removed from the system or excluded from the backup in the Volume Level Backup Control.
