NAS RoundTrip troubleshooting

This article describes how to troubleshoot basic connection issues with NAS RoundTrips (NAS RT).

Environment

  • Datto NAS RoundTrip

Description

Connection

Before starting the troubleshooting process, make sure that you have the correct physical connection between the Datto appliance and the RoundTrip NAS drive.

Transfer over the Network

  • Connect one end of a tested Ethernet cable to an interface on the RoundTrip NAS device.

  • Connect the other end to a switch on the local network (preferably the same switch the Datto device is connected to).

Transfer over a direct connection

This is also referred to as a NIC to NIC connection. In addition to the direct connection described below, the NAS should be connected to the network, as described in Transfer over the Network.

  • Connect a second Ethernet cable to a secondary interface on the RoundTrip NAS device.

  • Connect the other end of this cable to an unused interface on the Datto device.

  • Set the IP mode for this interface on the Datto device to Link Local. The interface settings are on the Network Configuration page of the Datto device GUI. Once the transfer is complete, set the IP mode back to its previous setting.

Power on the RoundTrip device, if not already done, and check the Synchronize tab of the Datto device GUIto see if the device is discoverable.

Additional Troubleshooting

If the device is not getting an IP address:

  • A monitor and keyboard will be needed to be connected to the Roundtrip device in order to verify it has an IP address on the needed interfaces and is detecting the connection properly.

  • Attempt to manually assign the IP address statically if one is not being assigned automatically.

If the device is unable to be assigned an IP address or is getting a valid IP address, but is still not discoverable by your Datto device:

  • Device side troubleshooting may be required and is best handled by support. Please Contact Datto Technical Support to review the connection configuration and the datto device for any potential issues.

NOTE  You should always start a RoundTrip through the Device Web interface.
