Connecting a SIRIS to a Hyper-V Connector
This article describes how to connect a Datto SIRIS to a Hyper-V hypervisor. These instructions apply to virtual and physical SIRIS appliances.
For vSphere instructions, see Connecting a SIRIS to a VMware Hypervisor.
Environment
- Datto SIRIS
Description
There are two ways to connect a Hyper-V hypervisor to the Datto SIRIS appliance. The traditional direct connection to Hyper-V environments can be used to offload screenshot and disaster recovery virtualizations to the hypervisor without any installed software. This connection allows the virtualizations to take advantage of the expanded system resources available on the Hyper-V host, delivering increased virtual machine performance, while decreasing overhead on your Datto appliance.
For more information on this method refer to: Connecting a SIRIS to a Hyper-V Hypervisor.
Alternatively, using the Hyper-V connector on the Hyper-V host to communicate with the Datto device allows for the same screenshot or restore offloading, but will also allow for Universal VM backups of the virtual machines hosted by the hypervisor, without installing additional software on the virtual machines.
Installation
Review the system requirements and considerations before proceeding: Hyper-V Connector overview.
Download the Hyper-V Connector from Datto's download page and install the Hyper-V Connector on your host.
No reboot will be required.
Connection
Connect to the Remote Web of the Datto device through the Partner Portal.
Click the Configure tab, then select Hypervisor Connections from the drop-down menu.
On the Hypervisor Connections page, select + Add Connection to open the Hypervisor Connection Wizard.
Enter the Hypervisor Connection Name and the Server Address.
Select Hyper-V Connector as the Hypervisor Type, then click Next.
Select the Hypervisor Options based on your preferences, then click Next.
Confirm the selections to complete the connection.
Next Steps
You can add the Universal VM pairings just like you would a VMware based agentless pairing: Pairing a Target System for Agentless Backups.
