Remove Agent
This article explains how to remove an agent from a SIRIS or ALTO device.
NOTE You will not see this option for replicated agents on a target SIRIS in a SIRIS Private configuration; you must remove the agent from the source SIRIS.
Environment
- Datto SIRIS
- Datto ALTO
Description
For enhanced security, certain features, such as the Remove Agent option, cannot be accessed locally, and are only available when accessing the Remote Web from the Partner Portal.
Recovery points cannot be removed if a restore is referencing the backup point. Confirm any active restores or rescue agents made from the desired agent are removed before proceeding.
In the Datto appliance's Remote Web, click the Protect tab to display a list of protected machines.
Navigate to the agent that is to be removed, and click the Remove Agent link.
A dialog box will appear with the implications of removing an agent from the device.
DELETING AN AGENT FROM THE DEVICE WILL REMOVE THE AGENT LOCALLY AND IN THE CLOUD. THIS PROCESS IS IRREVERSIBLE! YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PERFORM FILE RESTORES, VIRTUALIZATIONS OR ANY OTHER RECOVERY METHOD!
After reviewing the information provided on the Permanently Remove Agent page, type delete my local and replicated data, and then click the Delete button to remove the agent and all associated data.
IMPORTANT Deleting an agent dataset is irreversible; doing so will permanently remove all current and previous backup chains for the agent and all associated snapshots from the Datto Cloud. Be absolutely certain that you wish to proceed.
Do not use this option if you need to retain the Cloud backups for the agent. Instead, go to Manage Recovery Points to delete the local recovery points (To remove all local, the agent pairing will need to be Archived agents).
When the agent has been completely removed, the Protect page will be displayed.
Troubleshooting
If you are unable to see the remove agent option in the Remote Web, likely you are either;
On a SIRIS Private target device (it will display replicated on the agent). The agent can only be removed from the source device.
Logged into the device locally instead of through the Datto Partner Portal. This option will not be displayed as a security feature, since there is no MFA available for local logins.
If the agent is unable to be removed, it is often due to the agent dataset being held on by a present clone of the dataset. These clones are made by normal operations on the device, such as screenshot verifications and recovery operations.
Check for active local restores in the Restore Page.
Check for active offsite restores in the Recovery Launchpad.
Other types of clones preventing removal often need to be removed by support. If you verified that all restores have been removed for this agent and it is still unable to be removed, please reach out to Datto Technical Support to investigate further.
